I’ve found that I need books and journals that are only available in other libraries. Can I borrow from other libraries in London or elsewhere in the UK?

Answer

You can use other academic libraries in the UK by joining SCONUL Access. This will allow you to visit the Libraries and borrow books from them. Access to their online resources, including online journal articles may be limited by their licenses- please check with each institution before you visit.

  1. Fill out an application on the SCONUL Access website.
  2. Wait for your confirmation email - this is usually sent within 5 working days.
  3. Check the website for the library you want to visit before you go- you may need to pre-book an appointment or bring documents with you on your first visit.

Libraries you can use with your SCONUL card include Birkbeck, Goldsmiths and all of the University of the Arts London libraries.

To search across other libraries' catalogues use Library Hub Discover and Worldcat.
